THE AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

to im 'snrroß or "ran nuts*." Sir,—As time speeds away it has been frequently a wonder to me why the parent society of the agricultural exhibitions of the associations has not shown some little enterprise by having a history of its enterprises and statistics of its progress put into book form whilst it is possible to collect the particulars. The men .who have promoted the brands of cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, etc., and discovered the best types for producing the station and farm exports, which are worth over twenty-five million pounds sterling, should also have their names placed on record. The latest returns for wool, meat, butter, cheese, tallow, skins, and sundries produced from the land, I can quote is 1917, it being stated in a later Year Book that it was inadvisable to give the returns. .It is, however, sufficient to show that the names of men who work for the advancement of the country are worthy of record. We plenty about our politicians. why not have something about the efforts and material work of those who, year after year, do their utmost for the welfare of the country. Before old records are lost, and the Association has had one fire among its old papeTß, the cost of compiling a book should be provided for, and for the journal of the society, newspaper flits, and show catalogues, the features of the past should be preserved in history. Canterbury men have the distinction of knowing their Show, and the efforts made by those have been copied in all warts of the Dominion, and those, in mv opinion, also bear the progress of the country from the land on their shoulders, and develop the champion wool, meat, and dairy products are ouite desferving of that recognition which they do not now receive, because many of the pioneers are gradually being forgotten. This is a matter that should be attended to, and I need hardly offer any excuse for rising it.-Yonrs, etc, -
