A London message saya the Marquesa Cbnyngham, who was divorced last year, has married Mrs Antoinette Custance. The Mayor yesterday received a postcard from M. Henri Verbrugghen, who was then at New York, stating that he would return to Australia in February or July next. Messrs J. M. S. Macarthur (Dunedin), E. Denny (Dunedin), T. O. Price, (Wellington), W; A. Robinson (Dunedin), J.. P. Burton (Wellington), are among th« guests at Warner's Hotel. Seventeen applications were received for its position of electrical inspector and Mr Adams, already in the employ of the Electricity Department of the _ City Council, has been appointed to fill the vacancy. Mr F. O. York, Health Inspector for Marlborough, has resigned his position in order to enter into business ni Gisborne, where he was stationed prior to his appointment to Marlborough a few months ago. The many friends of Commander T. A. Williams, R.N., C.8.E., late Naval Adviser to the N.Z. •Government, will be glad to hear that cabled advice has been received that he is making satisfactory progress after his recent serious illness. Mr S. F. Wilson, who, at the annual meeting of the Board of Control of Lancaster Park, was, in ~s absence through indisposition, appointed chairman of the Board for the ensuing 12 months, returned thanks at yesterday's meeting of th© Board for the honour conferred on him, which, he said, he took as a compliment, not so much to himself, as to the body he represented, the Canterbury Rugbv Union.. He expressed the hope that his relations with the Board would be as happv as were those of the late chairman, Mr C. R. Clark.
