CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

FOUNDETMEN'S DISPUTE. A meeting of the Conciliation Council for the Canterbury Industrial District was held yesterday to consider the dispute between Cooper and Duncan, Ltd., R. Buchanan and Sons, Ltd., W. H. Price and Sons, and numerous other parties, and the Cbxistchujch Iron and Brais Moulders' Industrial Union. I'he Commissioner, Mr W. EL Hagger, presided. Ike employers' assessors were:— .iicsors G. M. ilall, C. Buchanan, and G. Fascoe, while Messrs P. B. Cooke, G. ana A. Burrows represented Uie empiojeea. it was agreed that the following parties should be auUed to the dispute:—Andersons, uvi., AUinoon and bons, Barbour and Lane, oooth, Jnacdonald and Co., Canterbury Engineering Co., J. Carter, P. and i>. Luncan, ax. Hepburn and bona, Scott Bros., Tudmey and uoodman, Waddell and bons, Midland Engineering Co.,' Christcnurch Tramway Board, J. btorrier (Timaru), and Wallace and Cooper (Timaru). lUe employers claimed that the hours of work should be increased to 47 per week instead of 44 as wae the case at prusent. They also asked for the following general reductions, in wages:—Journeymen moulders, from 2s per hour to Is 8d; machine moulders, from Is lid to Is 6Jd, when engaged on stock catalogue work la 6Jd. They also as-ted that apprentices' wages be fixed at sums from 16s per week in the year to ah per ween in the Mtli year, a worker, after serving his apprenticeship, to be classed as an improver lor one year, with a wage rate of Is 4Jd per hour. A cross-action was instituted by tie employees,, who asked that the hours be reduced to 40 per week. They also claimed that journeymen iron, brass, steel-plate, machine moulders, and core-makers be paid 2s 6d per hour, and that apprentices receive £1 10s a week for the first year, increasing to £2 10s in the fifth year, and £3 in the sixth year. After hearing argument on both sides the Commissioner recommended as followsThat the clauses relating to the hours of work, overtime, holidays, . journeymen's wages, apprentices' wages, improvers and pieceworker' conditions be referred to the Abitration Court. Several clauses in the present award were adhered to.
