In September Inst a question was asked in the House bv Mr McCallum as to why a tendter of £3272 from Andersons, Ltd., for the supply and delivery of 6teel plates and other material for the Wairoa-Waikokopu railway had been accepted bv the Government when tho Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co. had put in a price of £2631. To that question the Hon. J. G. Contes rep.ied that it was considered that the intc-r----i ests of both labour and trade generally in Xew Zealand justified the extra amount. The matter was referred to at the meeting of the executive >x>mmitteo of the- Industrial Corporation last nicht. The president. Mr W. J. Jenkin7 said that he had investigated tho matter, and had asoertame<l that the Cleveland tender, when all was counted, wculd amount to \\hil© Andersons tender represented £-872, Andersons reallv being the lowest tender He said the thanks, of 'Sew Zealand industrialists were due to Mr Coates for the interest he was taking in local production.
