I For some time past a movement haß been on foot with the object of purchasing a small Btsamer to trade with tho Peninsula | bays, mainly on behalf of the dairy factories ! j and the sheep farmers. Tho mattsr reached a more definite stage at a public meeting of those interested', held at Duvtuchello last ! sale day. Mr E. Hay, county chairman, presided over a large and representative at- | tendance. Among those present were Messrs J. H. Blackwell (Mayor of Kaiapoi), and Jas. Coop (Little River), who attended as directors of the North Canterbury Co-opera-tive Freezing and Export Company. I Tho chairman explained tho object of tho meeting, and trusted that thoir deliberations yrould result in the best interests of Peninsula farmers. ' Messrs J. Coop and J. H. Blackweß, on the invitation of the chairman, addressed the meeting at length. Enquiries were continually being mado about a boat to transport fat lambs and sheep to the freezing works. The company they represented was prepared to assist materially in tho matter. Sea transport was always the cheapest, and at tho present' juncture, a suitable bsat could be purchased at a very reasonable figure. Mr Blackwell, as cbiirman of directors ol the Kaiapoi Shipping Company, stated that whereas now by road, it takes three or four days for Peninsula fat stock to reach the market, the boat they suggested could, pick up tha stock at the various bays and land them at the works within a few hours. Ho advocated a scow drawing not more than 6ft of water, that could carry several hundred sheep Mid from 60 to 100 tots of general cargo. Such a boat would probably oost some £3OOO. He enlarged upon the advantages Kaiapoi held out to the Peninsula farmer. A laag discussion took place on ..various phases of the project, amongr those taking part being Messrs H. W. Wilkinß, F. G, Armstrong. J. R. Thacker, V. Craw. Finally a committee of Peninsula farmers was set | up, to make all neoessarv enquiries, obtain , information, visit tho Kaiapoi works, arudt then report to a public meeting, to be heltt next sale day. The following comprise the committee: Messrs F. G. Armstrong, J. C. Hay, C. £J. Kay, V. Cratw. It. W. "Wilkins, 3. Masefield and J. R. Thaoker. SAILINGS PROM HOME.
