There was an, attendance of about 150, and the function was most suoce«>sfud. Among those present were the Mayor and Mayoress (Ml and Mrs W. T. Lester), Councillor G. Morrie (chairman of the l'ire Prevention Committee), and Mire Morris. Cr. and Mrs J, H. j Collins, Crs. M. J. Miller, H. Webb, D. Grubb, W. J. Elliott, Messrs A. Tyler (president of the Canterbury Fire Brigades Association), W. E. Young, and W. Overland (Addington Railway Fire Brigade), Superintendent Stokos (Now Brighton), representatives of the Christchurch Central ana Christchurch. Railway Brigades, Rav. and Mrs T. M. Ournow, Rev and Mrs A. J. Petne, Rev. and Mrs S. Bailey, Rev. and Mrs W. Gray-Dixon. After welcoming the guests, Superintendant W. G. Carson rroposcd the toast of the Canterbury Fire Brigades Association, and mentioned the good work the Association had achieved in bunging the Canterbury Brigades together on matter® ©I vital interest to fire-fighters. The Association had also successfully organised deanonr slrations. In responding to the toast, Mr A.. Tyler, president of the Association, spoke of tho necessity of a more up-to-date plant for Lytic.ton, namely, a motor truck, to carry men and equipment. This would briiig Lyttelton up to the standard of a fiiet-class station! Other toaats were the MaySw and Councillors, proposed by Lieut. F. Wailin, and responded) to by Mr W. T. Lester and the Deputy-Mayor, Cr. M. J. Miller; tho Lyttelton Kre Brigade, proposed by Cr. G. Morris and responded to by Superintendent Carson. Dancing and musical items ocoupied the remainder of the evening,-music for the danoing being provided by Messrs A. Arneson and W. Jeffries and Miss Carton. Those contributing musical items were Mm T. M. Curnow, Rev. T. M. Ournow, Messrs A. Swaby, and H. Beechner. Golf. ' The Diamond Harbour Golf Club held • mixed foursomes match on Saturday afternoon for a trophy presented by Mr D. M son. The winners were Mrs F. K. Sutton and R. Candy with a net score-of 46 for 12 holes. Mise G. Bowring and K. Rhind were the runnars-up with a net . score oi 48.
