—♦■ ' BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The Board of Governors of Canterbury College met yesterday. Present—Mr J, O. Adams (deputy-chairman), the Very Rev. Dean Harper, the Rev. S. LawTv, the Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., Dr. G. M. L. Lester, Dr. C. Chilton, Messrs C. IT. Onie. H. Boyd, A. Fairbairn, J. R. Ctiuingham, A. E. Flower, C. T. Asehman, W. Brock. J. J. Dousjall. G. T. Weston, G. T. Booth, and L. M. Isitt, M.P. The Director of Education wrote giving formal notice of the re-appointment o\ Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., as Government representative on the Board. A letter was received from the Christciuireh High School Old Boys' Association inviting members of the Board to attend their annual reunion on July oi;h. On the recommendation of the M'J-<-eum and Library Committee it was agreed that Mr W. R. Cox he allowed to hold his engineering exhibition with tha English Electric Co. It was also decided that the thanks of the Board be accorded to the Director of the Belizrudo Museum for his gift of Serbian war medals to the Canterbury Museum. The committee reported as follows: That arrangements have been mado to have the Maori tiki which was presented to H.M.S. New Zealand by Mr C. J. Sloman, of Cliristchurch, returned to the Canterbury Museum, in accordance with the wishes of the donor. Having approved of the appointment of the following part-time teachers at the School of Art "to carry on the work of Misses Poison and Anderson, resigned:—Mr H. J. McKenzie, boys' common object drawing class (Mondays); Mr J. M. Thomasson. evening antique drawing (Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays); Miss Lilian Sanderson, j'fternoon needlework class (junr.) (Thursdays and Fridays); Miss Kathleen Browne, morning junior drawing (Saturdays). Having referred to the Finance Committee for favourable consideration, the question of building the much needed extensions to the Public Library, and having approved of an expenditure of £BS on urgent repairs to the roof of the Public Library building. The College Committee's report was discussed in committee and the following recommendations were adopted: That, in accordance with the recommendation of the Professorial Board, the subject of economics be added to those already included under the Faculty of Arts. That the following regulations drawn tip by the Professorial Board, for the granting of provisional matriculation, under Statute 6, Clause IV., University of New Zealand, be approved:—(a) Applications for provisional matriculation should be made to the chairman of the Professorial Board not later than the 110 th oj April, (b) Tho applicant shall furnish satisfactory evidence that he is not under thirty years of age on the first day of June in the year in which application is made, (c) The applicant shall state the courso ho desires to enter upon and shall supply particulars of his previous education or other evidence that he is qualified 'to enter upon the course with reasonable prospect of success, (d) If the Professorial Board is not satisfied with the evidence supplied it may require the candidate to submit himself to an oral examination by the ]>erson who woubj normally become his tutor. (e)_ In order that the Provisional Matriculation may be confirmed by the Senate, the studenfj shall at the end of the first academic year furnish to the Professorial Board satisfactory reports upon his year's work from the teachers of his subjects. •
