REFUGEES IN ENGLAND. attitude of government. (Received May 10th, S.lo p.m.) LONDON, May 9. lU'piying to a deputation of members of the House of Commons interested in Irish refugees, Mr Austen Chamberlain said the Government had considered the matter, but could not do anything to encourage a general exodus from Ireland. Nevertheless, he had been impressed by the evidence, and there were was pressing need for "help in some cases, until the refugees were able to return to their homes. The Government accordingly was appointing a committee under Sir Samuel Hoare to deal with such cases. ["A meeting of members of the House of Commons received a deputation or sktv men and women representing refugees from Southern Ireland, who had been forced to leave their homes. Thev detailed their experiences. Tho meeting passed the following resolution:—"As the stories of refugees showed that many murders were being committed, and a wholesale system ot robbery and expropriation being enforced by the terrorism which prevails in many parts of Southern Ireland, the meeting urges the Government to pay 1 compensation to the sufferers."]
