As tho price of a 41b loaf is Is lid, and as neither the purchaser nor the baker has often t'he necessary halfpenny, a stamp has to bo given cr received. It should be known that stamps axe not legal currency, though of ten m.ode to do duty for payment of small accounts. The* half-penny one- whi-:n comes and goes pretty fncjueiitly through tho bre;id transaction assumes a wretched condition after a little v/hik. It ia still a halfpenny stamp,_ howevw, and a number of these discoloured specimens are occasionally ««ed for r> fiting letters. The=o arc liable to relation by tiie post office officials. Tho whole difficulty could be removed qui to easily if it were taken in hand properly.
