MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Genera! Committee of the Canterbury A. and P. Aasocia--1 tion was held yesterday. Mr R. EI Alexander presided. There were also present: Messrs R. M. D. Morten (vicepresident), J. 0. McGillivray (lion, troasuror), Sir George .Clifford, Messrs A. Chamberlain, John Deans, J. D. Hall, W. Hayward, R. W. Lochhead, W. F. Parkinson, H. E. Peryman, It. •Reid, James Stevenson, D. W. Westenra (past-presidents), J. O. Coop, James Deans, H. E. Fincham, J. W. Foster, J. C. C. Gebbie, Duncan Gillanders, E. Hay, J. G. Herdman, F. Hubbard, C. G.'Jannan, W. J. Jenkins, Jas. Johns, H. S. S. Kyle,VL. R. Macfarlane, D. McMillan. K. J. S. Murchison, John Nixon, IS. M. Orbell, T. H. Overton, Thomas Stevenson,. Gordon Stoddart, D. B. Murchison, and H, E. B. Watson. November Dth and 10th were fixed as tilie dates for the annual show. The Sheep and Ram Fair Committee j recommended that unregistered sheep should be offered at the end of the salo of the breed to which they belonged, rather than at the end of- the whole sale. Mr D. 13. Murchison said tlhat lie thought something ought to be done in regard to unfairly shorn sheep. At present there was no way of debarring a. sheep that had been unfairly ehorn from competing at another show. Sir George Clifford said that the Association had been 'hammering at the matter for years. Something more than mere disqualification of the animal was requited. It was decided to forward a remit in connexion with the matter to the annual conference. , The Light Horse Committee reported as follows: "The Hawke's_ Bay A. and P. Association wrote stating they had disqualified Miss V. I. Macmillian for life for competing in a competition for which she was not eligible, and it was decided to notify the Society tihat this Association is not in sympathy with,the punishment, and suggests it should be reduced to two years." In the half bred competitions it.Y ,as decided that the words in the definition ."or the progeny of halfbred rains and halfbrecl ewes" be deleted, and that a competition be started for inbred halfbr&u which are not eligible for .'the Corriedale or halfbred competition. The:<sround Committee reported that Mr Staples, chairman, and Mr Turner, engineer, of the Christchurch Tramway Boaii'd, had waited on the committee with reference to obtaining a<. portion off the corner .of the ground at Westenra street, and it was decided to recommend that the corner be offered at ©. valuation of £3O, tlhe amount paid to be refunded when the fence was replaced as at present. It .was decided to recommend, that the sheep and pig pens be moved, and applications be called at once, with quotations for covering; half and the whole of the sheep pens, and that the. secretary's office be moved to a site opposite the grand stand. _ It- was decided to call tenders for cementing of the floor of the refresh- | ment rooms under the grand Btand at the Show 'Grounds. It was - decided that Messrs P. Burke and Co., Ltd., should be given a three years' lease for a building, tbf> plans to be approved by the Committee, for a refreshment either on. the north-east or south-west side of the W.C.T. Union and the Kennel Club. It was decided to call applications for the position of caretaker at a salary to be arranged by the Finanoe Committee. . The Special Committee appointed to support the Council of Agriculture in its attempt to co-ordinate the work oi the several .organisations representing the farming industry, reported thai it had circularised atl the A. and P. Associations and Breed Societies in New Zealand with reference to the constitution and administration of the Board -of Agriculture. The subject matter of the circular, sent to the Associations was printed in-"The Press" on May sth. It was decided that Mr Lochhead and any other member who was visiting the Dunedin Winter Show form a delegation to the Otago Association on the matter. The Cattle Committee reported that the New Zealand . Abemeen Angus Cattle Breeders' Association had written stating that ,th<vf_ hacfc disqualified Mr D. Grant for life, and it was decided to" inform the Association that the Canterbury Association would prefer it to adhere to its former deci- ; sion, . which was' disqualification ■ for three years, as it was considered that disqualification for life was too drastic. A champion ribbon for the champion dairy cow or heifer m profit (any breed) had .been offered by the Canterbury Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., and jt was decided to thank the company and ask them if they would reconsider the.matter , and contribute a special prize for another class. The Railway Management Committee reported that it had decided to invite the members,, through the General Committee, to furnish the Committee with full particulars in writing of : any difficulties they might experience in regard to the conveyance of farm products on the New Zealand railways. The Traffic Manager had been -written to, explaining that the committee was desirous of being of assistance to him, if possible The committee was to meet the Traffic Manager shortly to discuss general matters in connexion with the transport of stock. Sir • George Clifford said that thero -was one small matter which might, be j mentioned in connexion with the transport arrangements. There was only one telephone, at the Christehurch office and considerable delay was caused on this account. The various reports were adopted. Messrs A. McKellax and Denys Hoare were appointed auditors.
