j BECKENHAM SOHOOL COMMITTEE. | The first meeting of the newly-elected committee was hei-i pn Monday. Present—Mr Champion (cnairman), Mrs Puddle, Messrs Aewton, Neiii, liailagher, McWhii'tcr, Jonci*, Heatn, Carlisle.- It was -unanimously agreed that the headmaster, Mr Maxwell, be permitted to attend the committee meetings, liia presence in the past having been incst helpml. The chairman refeired in appreciative terms of the wreaths sent to the school 'and thence to the Cathediai on Anzac Day by Mesdames Marshall, Puddle, and McAlister. Permission was given to the Beckenham Residents' Association lo hold illustrated lectures in the school, proceeds to be devoted to«the swimming bath. The question of «ui acoount from the City Council for sanitation lee, amounting to £8 16s, was discussed, and vary strong exception was taken to its having to be paid out of incidentals, as, in the opinion of the committee, it wus a departmental account, and should be paid by tne Education Board. It was unanimously decided to place' before the Education Board "the injustice meted out to committees by having to shoulder these matters out of the aheady meagre allowances." The headmaster reported that the roll number was 344. There was urgent need for additional class-rooms to meet the growing needs of the school. In the infant room alone there were 86 pupils, which was far in excess of the floor space. OPAWA SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Opawa School Committee met on Tuesday. Present—T. W. West (chairman), J. W. Trist, W. O. Brown, J. E. Baker, J. P. E. Yeale, E. H. Yates, A. W. Minson, C. Savage, P. A. Cornish (secretary). The headmaster's report showsd that the average attendance for the four weeks ended May sth was 343, being 92 per cent, oi the roll number. It was decided to hold a concert on or about June 13th to raise funds to provide the girls and boya with jerseys to be worn when they are representing the school in the Bchool competitions. It was also resolved that the secretary should wait on the officers of the Education Board and request that the proposed shelter for the girls be erected without further delay. The school will close to-morrow for two weeks.
