OBITUARY.
The announcement of the death, on February 20th, of Mr John B. M.nchin, of '.'Terrilands," Pinner, near London, was read with feelings of regret by many ex-members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The late Mr .Minchin married a Christchurch girl, and during the war period Mr and Mrs Minchin practically kept open house as far as members of the N.Z.E.F. and anyone connected with the nursing and other branches of that body were concerned. Invalid and convalescent officers and officers on London leave were always welcomed at "Terrilands," and many retain grateful feelings of the hospitality and kindness extended to them.
A Press Association message from Whangarei notifies the death, at the age of 82 years, of Mr liobert Thompson, who had bsen resident at Whangarei for the past fifty-two ydars, and was from 1867 to 1!X)2 the member • for the electorate of Marsden in the House of Representatives. He was born in County Fermanagh, XKster, in 1840, and went to the West Indies as a young man and engaged in sugar planting. While still a young man he went to Australia, and took up 6heep farming, hut came on to New Zealand in 1870, settling at Whnngarei. He took a keen interest in affairs local 'and political, and was a man with very many friends, public; and. private. His wife predeceased him some eighteen years ago: He leaves a married daughter, the wife of Dr. Sweet, of Auckland.
