UNION BOWING CLUB'S REUNION.
The Union Rowing Club held its •.nJWaI reunion and presentation of prizes at "the club's rooms on Saturday night. Mr D. Le» presided over a, large attendance. ■■., In proposing the toast of the club; ihe chairman said he wished to congratulate Cthe club on tho success of. the past season. -The. finances were sound, and the premises were now up-to-date. The members had obtained a good many successes, but he was sorry that junior members had not been in prominence. The club depended on them L to uphold its good name, and he hoped tliey would take more interest in rowing in the future. The older members had done- their Wt, and much of the success was duo to' them. Mr F. D. Kesteven, captain of the blub, responded, and endorsed the remarks ohtbe chairman. ' ■ Mr G. Hobbs proposed the toast of The Sister Clubs." Rowing, he e-aid, was ■ the sport which brought out the finest qualities in men. The sister clubs, Avon and Canterbury, had helped very much to keep ■ the sport alive. There had always existed a cordial friendship between them, and the Union, and he welcomed their delegates to the reunion. Mr V. Hewer (Canterbury Club) Hi roponse, said the winning of the interproi mcial fours marked the great strides rowing was making in Canterbury- The Cure and Sumner Clubs deserved praise for the vuy they contested in the regattas. Mr R. K. Nightingale (Avon) abo replied, and said he was proud to see the red and white colours to the fore again. Sir R. Hobbs proposed the toast of the captain of the club (Mr F. D. Kesteven), who suitably responded.. During the' evening musical and .d'eutionary items were given by the following: —Messrs H. Herd, A. D. Drayton, Lirton, L. C. Kirk, Holsiey, Falvy, O'Connor, "Woodward, \V. Gopperlh, H. Soanes, J. Coopor, Dickie, and J. Laurenson. The following are the winning crews, which were presented with trophies won during the season: Akaroa Regatta—Junior Double Sculls: F. Home and S. F. Taylor; Junior Pairs: T. \d. Grenfell and E. H. Ellis. Sumner Gala—Senior Double Sculls: H. Adkins and W. Whittington.
