BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last night. Present—Tho *Mayor (Mr ,T. H. Jilackwelll, Crs. R. Dunn. T. li. Leithead, I'\ Thome, W. B. Scott, H. W. Trousselot, J. T. Yellowloes, H. Mcintosh, slid J.Hirat. At tho request of the Canterbury Progress League, tho Mayor,, Crs. Mcintosh' and Yellowlees were- appointed to represent the Council at a conference- of local bodies, to be held, at Rangiora on May 9th, to consider the advisability of set ting up an Electric Power Board for North Canterbury. The tender of Messrß John Dnthio and' 00. to supply steel for the new Cam bridge, at £l4 9a 6d per ton, was accepted. With reference to the damage by firo and smoke to the Firo Brigade premises, the State Insurance Department advised that it was prepared to meet the Council by paying a reasonable amount . towards the repairs. The town clerk was .instructed to obtain estimates: for the work. .Mr C. B. Higgs's. application for permission to erect a workshop and garage at the eorswr of North road and Puller street was referred to tho Works' Committee with power to act. It was decided to organise an appeal on behalf of the Fight and Famine Fund in tho borough on Sunday, April 30th.
