CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

tT™ Canterbury Lain Tennis Association's Ohimpioaghjp Tournament wss continued yesterday at the Avonside and Linwood courts. In the morning the light wu dull, out*, there was scarcely any wind. In the afternoon the weather cleared up, hut a {airly strong wind waa blowing. There was a good attendance of spectators. Good progress was made with the events, but it was found impossible to conclude the tournament, and so as many matches as can be arranged will be played off to-day at Avonside, and the remainder on Saturday, also at Avonside. . The match of the day was between Ollivier and Browning in thoMourth round of the men's singles championship. Browning seemed to be playing carelessly in the first set, and Ollivier had no difficulty in winning 6-0. •"In the second set Ollivier did not extend himself, and Browning was repeatedly beating him with ..well-placed drives. It came as a surprise when the set went ■to Browning 6-1. 'The. third set, it was seen from the first, would be a battle. Browning started off well, and rocked in his first service % The first two games went to him, but Ollivit r, who was playing at his best, took the ri 'xt three. Browning, whese overhead work was weak, wes serving well, and putting in some remarkable line and comer driver. The next two:pam»s were in Browning's favour, and, the score was 4-3. Ollivier, playing with his usual sureness at the net, enjned the next two gamea and the load. With the match depending on the game Browning played his hardest, and won off bis serve, 5-5. Ollivier was lucky in winning the next game, but t % ". last one went to him rather essily, 7-5.
