BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA. The Afcnroa Borough Council met on Thursday. Present—The Mayor (Mr Geo. Arm' strong), Cra. H. W. "WilMna, C. Stewart, T. Wilson, W. Pool, A. J Faithfull, C. W. Leote, H. .T. Bamham. Leave of absenoe was granted to Cra. F. E. Davis and J. P. Smith. The Hasting* Borough Councils resolution in respect to certain provisions of the Local Bodies Franco Act was received. An application from Mr F. D. Maher for a storm.-ws.tcr crossing was reierred to the Committee with power to act. A lengthy circular from the State Forestry Department was referred to the Reserves Committee to report^ The returning officer forwarded formal notice of result of poll for a loan of £9OO, the proposals being carried by 36 votes to 8. The formal resolution empowering the Council to arrange an overdraft with the bank of New Zealand on terms specified in th? Local Bodies Finance Act was carried. The tender of the master of the cutter Deveron for the transport of cement from Lyltelton was accepted. The application of the Fire Brigade tor sundry material was granted. It was arranged to hold a special meeting of the Council on the 20th inst. to discuss the balance-sheet and the estimates for the current year. . The finance report showed:—Receipts £254 10= Id B.P. Patriotic Society dr. £7OO, War Memorial Society dr. £3OO, antecedent liabi'ity Bank of New Zealand £1199 14s 4d, district fundi account cr. £413 15s 4d, borough loan improvement account cr. £9B Is 4d, accounts for payment £307 7s Id.—Adopted. It was unanimouslv decided that Anzao Day be commemorated by a religious service in the Oddfellows' Hall on the evening-of April 25th. Cr Leete gave notice of motion to move at next meeting:-"That the resolution appointing T. -Wilkins as assistant to the electrical engineer be rescinded. It was resolved to call applications for the position of wharfinger.
