CANTERBURY FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
PROGRAMMEFOR MONDAY. Alertness, alacrity, and smartness, the qualities so essential if the; fire-fighters' dattger'ous duties are to be carried out effectively, will characterise the competitors who wilV'take part in the events at th 6 Canterbury Fire, Brigades' demonstration, to be held on the Show Grounds, Addington, on Monday. Very many Christchurch people who have pleasurable recollections of similar demonstrations in the past will avail themeelves of the opportunity presented "of comparing the qualities 01 preseiit-day fire brigadesmen with, those of other days,'and it can be safely assumed that many enthusiasts will be on the: Show "Grounds at 8 a.m., when, the Gilberd Memorial event, for which there are .fifteen entries, will be started., The Association event will als6 be decided in the morning. The more spectacular events, tho rescue, the five-men reel,' and the schoolboys' events will be decided in the,afternoon. The . teams have, been in hard training for-two •or three'months, and the different events are expected to be hotly contested. As it is close upon" fifteen years slice a fire brigades' demonstration waß held in' Christchurch,. and as no charge will b® made for admission to the Show Grounds, it is' anticipated that a large crowd will be present. For entrance to the grand stand 6d will be charged, and <m opportunity, will' be given> to all who desire to make voluntary contributions to the Demonstration's Committee's funds. Luncheon and afternoon tea will be obtainablo on the grounds.
