A case of some interest to landlords and tenants was heard before Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., at Petone, on Wednesday, in which a tenant, who had some time since vacated the tenement, was being sued for rent. On his behalf, Mr Keesing sought to have the standard rent fixed at a sum equalling about half what the tenant had agreed to pay, and had for some time naad witlhout demur. Mr Sievwright, for the landlord, said the application took him by surprise, and he was not prepared to argue the question, as he doubted whether the standard rent law was meant to appljr to a tenant who had not raised the point while he was in occupation of the premises. The Bendh agreed that there was a doubt and the onsa was adjourned to the Wellington Court to enable Mr Sievwrighfc to furnish his arguments.
