Vernon and her 1 assistants, in dispensing tea at the match between representatives of the New Zealand Council and the Canterbury Cricket Association. Voluminous correspondence from the Associations was read with reference to the Council's proposal that the competition for the Hawke Cup should be carrieel out under the eroup system, similar to t"Ee manner in which tho"minor counties' competition in England is conducted. It was decided to recommend to the. quarterly meeting that, owing to the divergence of opinion, the ' Council invite challenges' from all the minor associations desiring to play for the Hawse Cup during next season, such challenges to be sent in before November Ist, the Management Committee to allocate the matches in the order it thinis reasonable.
