MAGISTERIAL WEDNESDAY. (Before Mr Wyvern Wilson, 8.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender was fined ss, in default 34 hours' imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. John Counihan, aged 66 year*, was charged with having di-:obeyed a maintenance order in that he was £159 in arrears. He was convicted and sentenced to one months imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended absolutely for a fortnight, and after that, as long as he paid 21s a. week maintenance and la per week off the arrears. A BY-LAW CASE. , Denis Carey, who applied for a remand on, Friday when he was charged with baring left a motor vehicle -unattended in St. Asaph street for longer than J 5 minutes, wa» fined 5s and costs 7a. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. William Thomas, a?«d 43 rears, wa* chKged with the theft, on, April 10th, of a£ s note, the proDerty of William Thompson. Chief-Detective A. -Cameron said complainant end accused had been, working at the «ame building. Thompson left his coat with £5 in the pocket in a shed, but subsequently roifl9cd the mousy. Accused had admitted the theft, and had wanted to tquare it by giving it back. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail beini? allowed, self in £SO and one surety of £SO. BREACH OP ARMS ACT. Israel Hyman Balkind was charged with having carried a revolver beyond the limits of 'his dwelling-house, and also with having brought a firearm from Australia into New Zealand without a license. He was fined 203 and costs on the first charge, and was convicted and o: dared to p«y 7a costs on the second. The revolver and ammunition were ordered to be forfeited to the police. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. Robert Ernest Powell, aged 31 years, who pleaded guilty to the theft of a motor-cycle valued at £3O, the property of Carl Stanley Vance, was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. A CIVIL CASE. On Monday last judgment was given by Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., in the adjourned case' E. L. H. Brown, agent,. of Christchurch (Mr A. T. Donnelly) v. J. R. Eyanß and Roland Bull, trading an Evans and Bull (Mr O. T. J. Alpers). Plaintiff claimed that, hem April, 1919. until June. 1921, he was employed as a land agent ay defendants under certain, conditions. All the remuneration due to rum had been paid except £75, which he claimed. Judsrment was given for defendants, with costs amounting to £l4 4s 4a. . GAME AND FISHERIES ACT. Gordon H. Hepburn and Frederick William Steven* were separately charged with having taken trout and Bot'trell, contrary to the Game and '.Fisheries Act, end to the regulation* of the Acclimatisation Society. Mr M. J. Gresson appeared for the Society and Mr H. K. MoDougaU for the defendants. Each was fined 20s end 7s costs for taking tbs-'trout,, while Hepburn was fiiwd £3 and costs for destroying a protected bird. IN OTHER PLACES. / ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT. (PBKSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAH.) INVERCARGILL, April & ,> At *8o» Police Court today, William Dallas Stevens, formerly teller in'the Bunk of New Zealand at Biverton, was committed for trial on a charge of tho theft of £BO, the property of the bank.
