CHRISTCHURCH PRESBYTERY.
The Chrlstchuich Presbytery mM yesterday, the Rev. T. G. Butler (Moderator) presiding. ' s A kirk session having been formed at Spreydon (Barriagton street Presbyterian Church), the assessors from St. Andrew's were discharged from their obligations, and the name of Mr Xiewis, the Home Missionary, who had been elected representative elder on Presbytery, was added to the roll of Presbytery. The report of the Commission which visited -'the iScargill Home Mission Station, was submitted by Mr Youngson. It stated that there were four preaching stations, but at none of the places did the, church possess a building, services being carried ba in local schools. The services . were Interdenominational. The finding expressed satisfaction with :tb»'state of affaire found by the (Jotmmiar.. sion* anil rejoiced that missionary, ©ffice- , bearers, and people were . working together harmoniously, and congratulated the Home Missionary, Mr Bailey, on the confidence and esteem.in which his people regard him. It was recommended that the necessary -machinery for securing a local session be set in motion, flat- the communicant*' roll be brought up-to-bWite, and that eome steps be. taken to provide buildings for worship,, even if only the establishment of a building fund. • The report' and finding Were adopted. Messrs A. Selwyn Bruce 'and iJas. Storry, membera of St. Andrew's Kirk Session, waited upon the Presbytery with the request that Presbytery; should appoint a salaried hospital chaplain junder, the jurisdiction of ; the Presbytery. Both gentlemen referred to tin* burden of additional work imposed on the minister of St. Andrew'* in respect of hospital visitation, and to the increasing number of patients. '■ • . ■■ Rev. J. Patereon moved:—"That a eommittee.be set. up to consider the Matter, consisting of the city ministers arid' their Presbytery, elders.'; He said it was one that was of great importance to ■ the country churches. ' , i . Kev "N.'L:-D. Webster ..said that at present there were, approximately, 70 Presbyterians patients in the hospital. • R*v J. D. -Webster said that there wer* about 80 Presbyterian patients in the Con* snmption Sanatorium and Military HosP, Mr' Paterson referred to the necessity for better arrangements for the services at the Sttonyside Mental Hospital, . _ The motion was agreed to, the K«v.
