LIFE-SAVING.
CANTERBURY CENTRE. The committee of th» Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held last night, there being present—Messrs S. K. Basaett (chairman), P. G. Bamford, D. C. Davidson, A. Barrett, W. 8. Pratt (hon. secretary), F. L. Collins, T. A. Perry, and Hisses'l.' Agassis, H. M. Cowley, E. V. Dowdies, and V. Milner. The tvestport North Beach Surf Club applied for affiliation. . ■ It was decided to advise the club as to the procedure to bo followed. Mr iJanuord stated that twenty members of the police proposed to form a life-saving The hon. secretary of the Coogee LifeSaving Club wrote thanking the Canterbury committee for their expressions of sorrow at the tragic death of tlie Coogee Club's lat» member, Milton S. Coughlan, which expression of sympathy had bean conveyed to Mr Coughlan's relatives. Mr G. N. jOrmandy applied for an examination of twelve boys and four girls for th» elementary life-saving test. * The headmaster of Christ's College wrote expressing pleasure that the committee had not taken offenoe at his refusal to allow the College to join in the Centre's compeytions. He objected to pupils giving publio demonstrations, as he was strongly of the opinion- that what they gained in direction they lost in another. Ho also thought that if the schools were to compete in those events they were entitled to decide the conditions under which they were held. When he knew exactly what the new conditions were he would be able to advise what would be his policy in the future. The headmaster of St. Andrew's College wrote stating that owing to the ir.es of bathing facilities at the school they wore unable to enter teams for the schools competitions. . It was decided that for the future all the examiners appointed • must hold at least 'he honorary instructor's certificate, v y Awards.
