H. Collina, -who for many years occupied a seat on the Council, and who had also fijled the Mayoral chair. It was decided to thank Mr Collins for the photograph. The Temuka Borough Council wrote asking to be supplied with, particulars regarding the Ashburton borough Glasgow leases. It was resolved to forward the information asked for. It was agreed to support the Napier Borough Council's resolution asking the Government to introduce legislation providing that credit balances of local bodies' loans accounts should be set against the debit balance" by the banks, or other accounts as regards payment of interest on the latter accounts.
The Library Committee reported that inasmuch aa the cost of the proposed Carnegie free library would now be £2750, as against the grant of £1750, and as the upkeep would place the project beyond the borough's financial resources. nO' further action be taken in the matter. The report was adopted.
Cricket. In the representative cricket match between Geraldine and Ashburton, played at Ashburton, Ashburton won by an innings and 24 runs. Ashburton made 194 (H. Ockleshaw 73, E. Burns 45, H. J. Chapman 25, H. Boddington 18), and Geraldine 64 *nd 106.
Swimming. At the first of a series of swimming races for the Ashburton gala cups, he'd in the Hampstead baths, the 25yds race for girls was won by Kathleen 'Robilliard, and the 25yds for boys by Cartwright, who also won the 75yds race. Competitions will be, held between the country schools, and &» far Ashburton, Allenton, Tinwald, Hampstead, and Methven have entered teams.
