MAHENO DISPUTE STILL UNSETTLED.

Tho Australasian Institute of Marine Engineers strongly supports the attitude of its members on board the ship, tho secretary stating that the Institute cannot countenance the chaotic state of, affairs existing in ships running in the deep sea trade to the danger of the lives of passengers. There is small hope of the vessel sailing this week. [The Maheno was held up on Thursday by trouble in the engine-room department. Several of the firemen were given notice of dismissal. This was resented by the remainder of the firemen, who also gave notice. The Union Company, being unable to fill the vacancies, decided to reinstate the men. The engineers thereupon refused to sail if the men were allowed to resume duty, claiming that they would have difficulties in maintaining "order in their department with the same stokers.]
