Tie Gala. | Ai a meeting of the committee of j the New Brighton Gala, Mr W. A. Drake being in the chair, donations of cash and gifts in kind were reported to be coming in in a very pleasing manner. The Side-show Committee reported that arrangements were being made to hold an ocean-going motorboat race, for which a, very valuable crize had been offered by Mr A. W. Owles. St Saviour's Orphanage. The children of St. Saviour's Orphanage are spending their annual holiday ot six weeks here, having taken Miss Crosgill's bungalow in George street, and the section adjoining, on which marquees have been erected, one being used as sleeping quarters, while the other serves the purpose of a clothes repository. The children are coming down in three parties, each party liaving a fortnight s stay. The first batch, consisting of 38, under the care of Sister Emily, assisted by Miss L. Francis, arrived on Thursday, and when visited yesterday appeared to be having a very jolly time indeed. Everything is being done by those in charge to make the children's stay as enjoyable as possible. Boy Scouts' Trek. Parents will be pleased to know that late yesterday afternoon, Scoutmaster G. W. Bishop, in charge of the New Brighton troop, reported that they had just arrived at Hororata, and had greatly enjoyed the first stage of their long trek.
