UNEMPLOYMENT.
COMMITTEE'S WORK ALMOST COMPLETED. The work of the North Canterbury Unemployment Committee is almost completed. One more meeting will be held after the holidays, at which a financial statement will be presented by the treasurer. Fifty-one men who have been working at the Gardens during the past week, were paid off yesterday, and will not be re-enipioyed Ihiiteen men aro still working at the W aimakariri River Boarii's rt-serve, gorse grubbing, and for this work the sum ot approximately £IOO is still m hand The men will be employed as long as the funds last. The following additional subscriptions have been received to the Unemployment Fund: Amount previously acknowledged £2oßo 10s i , concert by Royal Chnstehurch Musiuu Society and Male Voice Choir, per 11. B Owen, £lO4 3s; first prize, ladies tug-of-war, Friendly Societies picnic, per J A. C.arke, £1 i«s; 0. A\oods, £1 • total, £2192 9s 7d. . . A balance of £206 Is lOd is still in hand, and this will be used to " r ? vl work for the most urgent cases of hardship.
