THE UNIVERSITY SPIRIT.
CAUSES OF DEGENERATION. (By Cable—Press Association—-Copyright.) (Australian - and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, December 3. The University Committee, appointed recently to enquire into the degeneration of the university spirit, has reported that it is due, among other causes, to the enormous increase in the number of students owing to exhibition and bursary awards, to the drift during the war, and to the crowding of the curricula, which were speeding Tip competition and breeding th e fear of failure. A number of reforms are suggested, chiefly in the direction of encouraging sporting facilities.
