CHARITY GOLF MATCH.
MR WILB3E BARD AT SHIRLEY. Grest interest is being taken in the charity golf match to be played at tie Shirley links to-day, between Mr "Wilkie Bard, the famous English oomedian, and Mr E. C. Butters, the Christohurch Golf Club's professional. Ths conditions of tho match are that Mr Bare; is to reoeiv* e, stroke a hole from the professional, with, an optional etroke in the event of a puffed" stroke. Should Mr. Bard lose, ho will pay over £oo, and should the result prove otherwise tho sum of £lO put up by Mr B. B. Wood, the jpell-known Chnetchurch amateur golfer, wilPbe handed over. . The match will commence at 11 a.m., ana ia expeoted to finish about 1.30 pjn. Subsequently an auction of tho goOf balls usee, in tho match, and of other souvenirs will be conducted by Mr Bard. Tho gate money, the amount to be paid over by the loser ot tho match, and that realised by the auction are to be handed over to the local branch of the Plunket Society. Mr Wilkie Bard has a high appreciation of the aibility of Douglas, the Miramar professional, whom he played last Saturday in a match for charity at Wellington. Mr Bard stated last night that he thought that if Douglas went Home he would meet with a lot of success in the open championships, and thus bring New Zealand into prominence in ths golfing world, in which she was little known At present. He thought that if golfers were to start a fond among themselves they would be able to raise sufficient to enable this to be carried out He would lik* to see the matter taken up seriously before he left the Dominion.
