Concert. Tho concert, organised by Mr and Mrs Carson, in aid of the fund for giving the children of the Presbyterian Orphanage a holiday at the seaside at Cliristmaatido, proved a great success. Tho programme, consisting of solos, both vocal and instrumental, part songs and recitations, was contributed by the girls and boys of Knox Church Sunday school, and the local Presbyterian "Church school. As a result, tho holiday fund will be increased by £l2. Owing to the success of the entertaanmeatf tho committee have decided to repeat it for the benefit of the same fund. A word of praise is due Mr Carson's children, who collected £3 15s on .Guy -Eawkes* day towards the pro- '■ jeet. ] Methodist Church. ! Tho Methodist schoolroom was crowded to overflowing on Thursday evening,! when-*n excellent programme was given by the Band of Hope children, und9f the- directipn. of Mesdames J. Hull, -A> E. Cockle, H. Dean, and Mas Hall. • Songs, recitations, dialogues, and action bongs were creditably givra hf toe chi'.'(' \. The proceeds, amounting to ne.ar.y £6, will he forwarded to tho Methodist Orphanage, at Panama, for the .purchase of Christmas girts for the inmates. The Her". W. Walker expressed the thanks of the Church to tho peYformcrs, and to those who had so carefully trained them. Senior Cadet Company. A. very satisfactory parade of the
local company of' Senior Cadets was held on Wednesday evening, at which there was a muster of 92. The Christchurch Cadet Drum and Bugle Band, 25 strong, jvere also present, by invitation. Ihe instruction tor tho evening included a route march, headed by tho band, through, the principal thorough--1 fares of the borough, •tho rosidents - turning out and extending a hearty i welcome to,.the band. Before dismissv t ing the parade, the O.C. thanked the band for the treat it had given tho " members of tho company. At tile con- » elusion of the parade tho band and the J company non-coms., at the. invitation I of the 0.C., partook of supper at the t Balcony Tea Rooms. 'The company is entering a team to compete for the " "Weekly Press" Challenge Shield. Sale of Work and Christmas Tree. \ In aid of the Anglican Churoh Build- ■ ing Fund a very attractive bazaar, sale i of work, and Christmas tree is being . held in the Pier Hall. The .Mayor (Mr , J. Gamble) in formally declaring the function open yesterday, said the sale 1 would continue until this evening. The ■, stalls are: North Beach stall, Mrs >! Peppier; New Brighton, stall, Ladies' 1 Working Bee; variety, Mrs H. A. ' Bishop and Mrs M. Brown: flowers and pot plants, Mrs O. H. Winny and > Mrs Hockley; produce, Mrs A. M. ■ Chivera and Mrs Golding; irUit, Girls' > Club; handkerchief stall, Mrs W. Bar- > nett. and Mrs O. Berg; Christmas tree. > Mrs.G.Bargrove; book stall, Mrs and * Miss -Aslin; surprise packet stall, » Young' Men's Bible, Class; Entertain- - ment Committee, Mrs.Ainsley and Mr » F. Ward. Many other members of the 1 congregation are assisting. All stalls, etc., did good business yesterday, and it is expected that the takings will be augmented during this afternoon and i evening. ~ -.
