TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

BOARD OF GOVEENOEa A meeting of tho Board of Governors if; the Christchureh Technical College was heild last evening, Mr C. H. Opia presiding. The chairman, in his report, said that the past session of evening classes had been a very satisfactory one. The interest manifested in the Institution by tho trades of Chrietchurch had been distinctly encouraging, and it was not likely that other trades, for which instruction was provided at the College, would as& in the near future to' assist as tiie others had done. Xhe report was adopted. The lunanco Committee reported a bank credit balance on November 10th of £1154 14t> 3d. It was recommended, that a> sum of £SO should be voted for the' purchase of prizes for the Technical High fichooh Tho report was adopted. The Buildings Committee reported that as tho lowest tender for the erection of the class-rooms on the south wing had exceeded the grant promised for the work, the Department had been asked to increase the grant to cover the total cost.

The report waa adopted. The Appointments Ccmmittee reoommended that the Minister be asked to provide for the medical examination of pupils attending secondary schools, and that instructors in sign-writing, drawing, and painting respectively be engaged for the tuition of apprentices in the painting and decorating triulo, to commence at the beginning of next year. ihe report was adopted.

The Director, in the course of his report, Baid it was unfortunate that during the session just ended it had been impossible to make satisfactory arrangements for the instruction of apprentices in coach and motorbody building, and the clpss had consequently been in abeyance. That branch of wood-working was a, highly skilled and specialised trade, and as it had been developed to a great extent in Chriptchurch, and a wood class of student would attend far instruction, it was hoped that it would be possible to provide a class in the subject next year. The report was adopted.
