FOOD RIOTS IN VIENNA.

"Workers carried out a mass demonstration as a protest against the scarcity of food. Several thousands marched to the Parliament' Buildings and attempted to force an entry, but were repelled by the police. A deputation was received later by the Premier and tlaq Minister of Finance. The workers demanded the cessation of the importation) of luxuries, and State provision of children's food. The Minister of Financo promised to tax rich people to meet the demands. The workers struck and rioted later. They pillaged the restaurants and shops stocked with luxuries and furs. They seized and robbed and beat well-dressed men in the streets. The police were powerless, and the troops being absent in West Hungary the mob rioted until they were exhausted. Sir William Goode, British Director of Relief Missions, was among the victims of the mob.
