Besides much grass, the bush fires have destroyed a number of homesteads and some wheat in the Dubbo and Narrabri districts, but constant vigilance and incessant fighting have so far kept the wheat areas largely intact. In the Hay district men refused 30s a day to fight the fires, demanding 5s an hour by day and 10s an hour by I night. ' . -
