ROYAL MUSICAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Royal Musical Society was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Mesdanies Gow*r Burns and Menzies, Messrs R. B. Owen (chairmaa), A. Lucas, W. H. Rose, R. R. Smith, and P. 11. Venables. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Machiu and Roberts.

The chairman stated that the "Creation" concerts last week were very successful, the second performance; on Saturday being one of the best the Society had given. An approximate statement of the financial results showed that a profit of about £76 had been made.

It was decided to give the "Messiah." concert in the King Edward Barracks on Tuesday, December 20th, and the following recommendation* of the Soloist Selection Committee were approved, viz., that Meedames Winnie Fraser and Esquilant, Messrs Sydney Butler and Harry nobbs (London) be the soloists.

Air Owen reported on his- visit to the Wellington Society, and it was decided to write a letter appreciating the unbounded hospitality extended to. the chairman. The "Music in Schools", movement was reported to be making definite progress. The Director of Education expressed his sincere appreciation of the Society's work in this direction,' and approved of certain recomdations made by the Society in connexion with the musical training of "students in the Normal Training College. It was hoped that a. start would soon be made in the day schools, as Mr Sydney Butler would arrive in Christchurch shortly for this purpose. It was decided to hold a social for the performing members on Thursday, December 22nd, and give them an opportunity of fittingly fareweliing their esteemed conductor, Dr. Bradehaw, who is taking a year's rest. The chairman submitted his ideas as to the appointment of a chorus master for next season, and oonductor for consideration by the committee.
