Australia won the third test match against South Africa by 10 wickets. South Africa, continuing its second innings, made 216, its aggregate thus equalling Australia's first inning? total. _ Collins rang the changes frequently in an endeavour to dismiss the South Africans cheaplv, but met with solid resistance by Frank" and Zulsh. The latter batted admirably till hs returned-one to Macartney. Both were at the wickets for 70 minutes. Nourse was unusually restrained till he reached the thirties. Then he stepped out- to Mailey, missed him, and was stumped. Ling batted very confidently. Immediately after tea. Blandkenburg rattled 21 together in merry style. Eeid brought 216 on to the board before Macartney landed his stumps. Macartney bowled brilliantly tluoughout. He came to the rescue when McDonald, Gregory, and Mailey were not effective. His success was due to excellent length. Mailey scored a single off Hands, and ended the match. . The team was accorded ft great reception. Following are the scores: — AUSTRALIA. The annual cricket match between teams representing the banks and professions and the auctioneers, for the hotcur of holding the Dadd Thomas Memorial Cup, was played on the Ashburton Domain oval yesterday. During the afternoon tea adjournment Mr David Fr.icdlander (Ashburton's senior auctioneer), at the request of Mr A. H. Boddington (one of the oldest and most successful all-round athletes in tho Dominion), briefly explained tho history of the Thomas Memorial Ctip, and said that it was purchased and had been played for annually by teamß' of footballers representing the auctioneers and banks and professions and by cricket teams representing the same bodies, to perpetuate the memory of the lato Mr David Thomas, who was always regarded, and .lightly So, as tho father of good, clean, manly sport in Ashburton. For a number of years one or other of the sons had always taken an active part in these annual fixtures, but they were now residing out of the district. However, Mrs Thomas had come over from Tinwald that afternoon to have a cup of tea with tho players, and on behalf of all present hj" extended to Mrs Thomasi a. most cordial welcome. (Warm applause.) They were all exceedingly pleased to have her amongst them. They had met for a frinedly game of cricket and a social cup of tea in honour of one who, for many years before he passed away, had done much to encourage manly sport. The auctioneers' learn was the first to bat, and put up a total of 194 (E. Burns 85, J. Nicholl 59, Holford 57, M. Christie 11). The banks and professions!' team responded with 289 (A. H. Boddington 21, G R. Francis 44, H. J. Chapman retired 83, A. L. Tressider retired 64, Cradwick 22, H. Jones 11). During the afternoon a 50yds running handicap was held in connexion with the gathering, and this created great interest. Tho result was:—J. M. Wilfcie (scratch) 1, L. M. Eepagne and E. F.
