A letter was also received from the-secret • tary of the brigade, appealing *to the ' Council to rescind its resolution regarding the superintendent, and' stating that at a meeting of the brigade on Monday evening, 19 members out of „ 20 had voted in favour of the-super* <- intendent being reinstated. Cr. Leithead moved) and Cr. Barnard seconded: "That the letters bo received,, and that the Council regrets that • it cannot rescind its resolution." An amendment by Cr. Hirst, seconded by Or. YeUowlees, "That the Coun- ■ cB rescind the resolution of the special - mcnt.ing, and tiat the- 1 matter be held orer for six months," was defeated after a full discussion. The Mayor (Mr J. H.
