DEATH OP AN INFANT. The adjourned inquest touching the death of a newly-born ntfje chik£. which was found on November 14th x&' derneath the bed of a tingle woman at a private hotel, was continued yedjrday before the Coroner, Mr S. K. MoCarthy. -*• Mr P. f. J- Amodeo appeared on behalf of the mother. . Constable H. W. Wilkfas gave evidence that the girl admitted she was the mother of a child found under the bed. She stated that the child had not uttered a cry, and that it wu dead when born. The room was in disorder, and a short penknife was on a table. The knife appeared to have blood on it. The mother said she was a domestic servant, residing at Wellington. Mr Amodeo advised her not to answer questions which might incriminate her. She refused to answer any questions relating to the death of the child. *j The" inquest was then adjourned to Friday at 10 a.m., as the evidence of a nurse and a doctor has to be taken.
