BASIC WAGE IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
LABOUR CAUCUS DECISION. jßy OaMe—Prow Association)— Copyright.) (Australian «nd N.Z. CaM» Association.) (Received November 29th, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 29. Doubts as to whether the Government would proceed with the Basic Wage Bill introduced into the Legislative Assembly with the object of restoring the 3s a week reduction recently promulgated by the Board of Trade, were solved by a caucus, meeting deciding to push on the Bill as soon as possible. It was decided to go oven further and raise the basic wage of rural workers to the same level as that of city workers, namely, £4 6a. The Government's delay in proceeding with the Bill is attributed to the probable treatment it will receive in the Legislative Council. In antiLabour circles the raising of the rural wage is regarded as a direct challenge to the Council to slaughter the Bill, thereby providing the Labour Party with a handle in the event of their desiring to appeal to the country.
