The Paris "Journal'? states that General Sylvestre, who was reported missing after the Moorish attack on Melilla in July, is alive. A New York message says the known casaulties at the Rialto Theatre fire at New Haven are three dead and 20 seriously injured, many of whom are expected to die. Those sustaining lesser injuries are uncountable, as all able to walk disappeared to their respective homes, but hundreds were trampled on or singed. A London message says Madame Payling and Mr E. D. Sniith, of Sydnew. with a few others are negotiating with a view to purchasing Coyent Garden Opera House and are awaiting a reply to a definite offer. Madame Payling believes that there is every possibility of running an opera successfully, despite previous failures.
.Miners in the Prince of Wales colliery at Aberearne, Ebbw Vale, 12 miles from Newport, broke through into an old working and found remains of many of the 268 victims of an explosion jrhich occurred on September 11th, 1878. The explosion was so terrific that few bodies were recovered at the time.
