TRIAL OF ARBUCKLE.

Arbuckle entered the witneea stand to give evidence in his defence thu afternoon, causing a sensation in the orowded court-room. He testified: "Mist Rappe came to my room At the St. Francis Hotel on September 7th. Mrs Delmont was with her. She did not conie by my invitation, neither did Peyron nor Blake. I wu drksaed in pyjamas and a bathrobe. About 3 p.m. I saw Miss Rappe in my room. I wan then going out for afi engagement with Miss Taube. I had seen her in the Other room just previously. The door of the room was open when I saw her. I. found her in the bathroom on the floor holding her stomach and vomt iting. I picked her up and gare her • glnss of water. Miss Rappe said ahe would like to lie down. I carried her to th e bed. She said she had these spells often. I went to the bathroom. When I returned she was on the floor writhing and moaning. 1 called Miss Peyron and Mrs Blake. When thoy came she was tearing her clothes. She pulled of! her dress and tore her stockings. I told the girls to stop her and tried to help. I then went out. When I returned Mrs Delmont Was rubbing her with ice. Miss Rappe said nothing anyone could understand. I did not place my hand on Miss Rappo's hand while she had hold of the door. I fifd not nsk for the key to Miss Rappo's dressing room at the Culver City studios. I have told everything that occurred while I was in the room with Mibs Rappe." Arbuckle said that while Miss Rappe was lying on the bed lie picked up n piece of ice. Mrs Delmont told him to get out. He told her to shut up or he would throw her out of the window. He then had the hotel manager and a doctor called. The prosecution cross-examined Arbuckle, endeavouring to ascertain how long Miso Rappe was in the bedroom beforj he entered. Arbuckle said be did not know. He was dancing with other members of the party and making himself ''generally genial." The Court adjourned with Arbuckle still in the witness box.
