Staiker presiding. It was resolved to forward letters of sympathy to the relatives of the lat« Mis K. W. IJuiney and lira Leyitf. Stev-ens, stationmastrr, wroto inti-m-tir.pr that, owing to tho small number of persons availing themselves of tho train atop at the show ground sates, tho train would not stop there in future, A circular letter wan received from the chairman of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers. Assc.ciii.tion asking for the vo-operation of the Association in urging tho Government to take measures to prevent tho spread of fire blight by making the destruction, of hawthorn hedges compulsory. The letter was received. ; A circular wag received from Mr G. L. Marshall, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, requesting the committee's support in urging "upon tho Government tho necessity for economy and retrenchment in tho publio service. . , The secretary of the Board of Agriculture foiwardcd a circular letter urging tho formation of .iunior clubs. . ' Mr W. A. Banks spoke in euppcrt of fnrmwg such a club, and moved that) a, committee be set up, to go into the matter. The motion w.as< eeoonded -by Mr \V. J, Moir. and carried. The following committee was appointed:—Messrs W. Stalker, J. E. Strachan. T. Wyllie, C. J. Stevenson, W. A. Banka, T. Leech, and C. Tallott. . The secr-etarv submitted an interim bal-ance-sheet of the. rc-ccnt show, which was deemed very satisfactory. Seventeen new.members were elected. A vote of thanks was; passed to the judges and to Mr J. F.tzgibbons for takins charge of the she-p weight-guessing competition. Mr Stalker jravo notice to move at the next meeting that the committee he increased to 20 members, and the district divided into wards. Mr Stalker, on behalf of the cfiinmittce, presented Jlr T. Leech with a framed photo-, graph of the committee. ; Prior to the meeting of the general committee, tho pretest committee -held a meeting. Tho protest of Mr H. S. Kyle aga.nst the championship for harness ponies bcin? Awarded to Mr T. Gee, dud that of Mr F. Merrin, jun., against the championship for saddle ponies being awarded: to Mr W. fccoon, were upheld. A protest made hy Mr R, Newell against the decieion of the judges in the epecial prize awards in the clasa for the best milch cow was dismissed; as was also one made by Mr L. Holborough against the New Zealand Farmers' Cooperative Association having been allowed to enter an exhibit in tho carriers' horses eection.
