BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOL The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held last night. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. H. Blackwell). Crs. R. Dunn, T. R. Leithead, F. Thorne, W. B. Scott, J. Hirst, H. W. Troufselot, J. G. Yellowle*, H. Mcintosh, and J. W. Barnard. It was decided to accept an invitation from the Kaiapoi Working Men's Club to attend the unveiling of the roll of honour on December lOth. The request of the electrical engineer, Public W<*ks Department, that a new schedule of the borough consumers be compiled was referred to the Lighting ComThe Works Committee reported that it had no recommendations to make with reference to Mr J. Hurst's application to have the outlet of the -drain on liis property lowered, or to covering portion of the open drain in Beswick street. The report was adopted. The Housing Committea reported that arrangements would be made to confer with those desirous of building houses under the Council's housing scheme. ... .. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the management of the Grand The®lre, KoiaW, stating that it was the opinion of the Council that extra exits were necessary in case of fire or panic.
