During the recent Bombay riots the fire brigade dealt with twenty-nine in. cendiary fires. It worked courageously under heavy stoning from the rioters. Three Mohammedans were arrested at Bangalore on a charge of forcibly stopping a motor bus. A crowd followed them to the police station, where 8000 demonstrated and became unmanageable, Troops were called out, and, after ineffective warnings, fired, killing one and wounding five. The crowd then dispersed, but later gathered again and became threatening. The police and troopa are now protecting the shops, whioh are closed.
