LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION.
A letter from the Council of Christian Congregations cam© before the Canterbury College Board of Governors yesterday, in which it was asked that the Board give its support to the big public meeting to be held on December 12th for the purpose of fostering an international good understanding and forming a local League of Nations Union. Dr, G. M. Lester protested against the Board going ouxside its province to support the matter. The Board had always kept clear of politics and religious questions, and prolwb'y a number of contentious matters would come up at the meeting. Mr A. Fairbairn expressed himselt as in completo accord with Dr. Lester. Ho was gympathetic with, the movement personally, but he did not think it was a matter for the Board;. The Rev. S. Lawry stated that there would be nothing contentious • brought up at the meeting, and Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., said that the object of the nieet.ng was not a sectarian one, but an Empire question. The letter was received, and it was agreed to comply with the requeat. The City Council last night decided to extend its support to the public demonstration being arranged by the Council of Christian Congregations in support of the League of Nations.
