BASIC WAGE IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

In the Arbitration Court the Bailway Commissioner applied for a reduction of 3s 4d a week in the*'wages of locomotive engineers and power-house engine-diivers in accordance with the recent declaration by the Board of Trade. . The Crown intervened? asking for an adjournment for a month on the ground that the Crown .had asked the Board of Trade to reconsider .its decision. Mr Justice Curlewis refused the Crown's application, stating it was not in the public interest as claimed. He granted a reduction of wages in the case of the power-house engine-drivers, and adjourned the other case for further evidence.
