Their Excellencies Lord and I«ady Jellicoe arrived in Christchurch on Saturday, and went into residence at the home of the Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C. Thev attended the races on Saturday, and'in the evening were present at the concert given by the Male Voice Choir, of which the Governor-General :s patron. 'Yesterday. Lord and Lady Jellicoe attended the morning sen-ice at the Cathedral, and to-day his Excellency will visit the sanatorium at Hanmer, returning in the evening. Lady Jellicoe will be a guest at the Christchurch Polo dub's ball at the Art Gallery this evening. Mr Massev arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon, and unveiled a statue of Robert Burns, in the domain. He returned to Wellington last night. I)r W. H. Svmes, who has been spending some time in Fiji, has .g° ne thence to Queensland, to study Filana disease. Ho expects to return to Ohristchurck by' Christmas. ' Mr J. W. Dibble, agricultural instructor at Auckland for the Department of Agriculture, and Mr J. E. D. Snieer. offioer-in-eiiarge of the clerical administration of the Department at Auckland, aro at present on leave or absence prior to rctinnrj on superannuation at the end of next month. Both officers have had many years' service in the department. There arrived from England last week Lieut.-Colonel Charles M. Nome, D.5.0., lnt-e of the Royal Engineers, and Mrs Norrie. They are now in Wellington. Colonel Xorri© is paying particular attention to hydro-electric requirements in this Dominion, especially those of the Government and local bodies. During the war he saw service in Mesopotamia. Lieut.-Colonel J. L. Sleeman, who recently vacated the appointment of Director of Military Training to the New Zealand Forces (G. 5.0., Ist Grade), has been awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Emperor of Japan for his services as Liaison Officer to Japanese Naval Units during the Great War. His Majesty the King has granted permission to Colonel Sleeman to wear this rare decoration. Major F. Wallace, who has been divisional secretary of the Salvation Army in Christchurch for some time, has been transferred to ' the position of divisional commander of the new Taranaki division, which includes the King Country. Major C.'"\Vells^'at present manager of the Roto Roa Island institution, has b'een appointed divisional secretary in Christchurch. Staff-Cap-tain A. Sitter, formerly a member of the Christchurch. staff, and for several years private secretary to the Commissioner, has been appointed editor of the "War Cry.''
