SPORTING.
The Victoria Racing ClutPs Spring Meeting will be concluded, to-day. Apart from the new totalisator buildings at Riccarton, very extensive alterations havo been made there during the past few weeks. The outside tea room has been shifted from its old site to a position further cast, where a portion of t'he training boxes stood. -The tea room has also been enlarged, and it now provides twice as much accommodation as formerly. The starting at Riccarton during the New Zealand Cup Meeting, which opens to-day, will be done by electricity. The necessary wiring has been completed at each of* the starting barriers. Apart from the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting, to-day's fixtures include t'he Auckland- Racing Club's Spring Meeting at El'.erslie and the Tarot-ihi-Carterton Racing Club's Annual Meeting. Mr E. J. Watt's Lady Aura, winner of the A.J.C. Gimcrack Stakes, won the St- Albans Handicap at Moonea Valley Meeting on October 22nd. At the West Australian Turf Club Meeting on Otober 22nd, Checkmate f Antagonist—Winning Way) won the Strickland Handicap, a mile race. Three-year-olds have a good record in connexion with the Stewards' Handicap. Fhnse engaged in to-day's race include Rational (Bst 131b), The Hawk iSst lllb), Absurdum (Bst), Backsheesh (7st 31b), Fulsome (6st 13lb), Dangeil Zone 'fist 121W, Purple Spur (6st 91b), Tatau Tatau (6st 81b), and Kilcullen 6st 71b). All fast work was registered ■on No. 3 grass track, which was very fa«t. The bulk ofthe horses were restricted to etpady pacing. Prince Carl and rovelet sprinted five furlongs in lmin Bseo. Mountain Lion three in 87 3-6 th eeo, and Queen Abbey and Infante four in 61eec, Toa ,Taua covered four furlongs in 60 l-sth seo, Tinohoro skipped over six-furlongs in lmin 16seo, while Gold Kip beat Some Fashion over five in lmin 4sec Kipling went' six furlongs in limin '2Qoec. After breakfast Inai went five furlongs, the last four taking 49seb. Explorer beat Dorio over six iuilongß in lmin 17sec. The weather now promises to be fine. TBOTTTNG NOTES. Yesterday was.an off day at Adiington, »ud there was no work of importance, much to the'disappointment of the large number, of spectators present. H. Gaskill drove Coil a mile and a half in Bmin 26 2-6 sec. Bush Boy and Imperial Fan (E. O. McDermott), assisted over the last mile, and both v showed. a good turn of speed. Waridering "Willie (O. Smith) paced a mile .in 2min 22seo. He has recently shown signs of soreness, but pulled up Bound. F. E.. Jones put in an appearance .with Ma Cup candidate, Rangitata' Lass, who. bears a well-trained appearance. The mare- was only jogged, and! will be given fast wWk to-day. The Auckland owned, and trained trotted Gold Boy did slow work. He looks fit and •well and should pay his way at the Meeting. Jack Arrah worked a' mile and a half without the straps, and paced with plenty, of daFh. Tatsy Djllon and Vilo did strong threequarter paoe work without the hopples. . Don Wild showed a fine turn of speed in patches, while pacing a oouple of circuits. Gleaming- was.worked, out over two miles nt New Brighton and acquitted himself well. He was assisted by Nancy Stair over the first mile and Saint's Bell over the last portion of the journey, end eaßily held both safe. J. Henderson wrrves- to~d»y from Oamaxu with Albert Cling.
