A meeting of the East Chriatchurch School Committee wu held on Monday, Mr Harvey presiding. A letter was received from the Minister of Education with reference to the application to have East Chriatchurch proclaimed a District High School, stating that the matter had been referred to the director of Education for a report. Mr Atkinson waited on the committee and explained that the East Christchurch Amateur swimming Club were unable to take sole charge 01 the bath for the seson, aa no member oould be lound who could devote the neceseary time. On behalf of the club he promised that the members would do their best to coach any pupiie in the art of swimming. The heaamaater reported that the attendance ior the past month haa been good, the average at the Main School being 675 out of a noB of 740, at the Infant School 352 cut of a roll of 3/7, and at tne bouia beit 108 out of a roll of 126. The question of raising funds to provide prizes and give the scholars a picnic was di&oussed, and on the ciuurmans suggestion it was decided to have collecting cards printed and circulated amongst the scholars. Messrs Stewart and Stokes were appointed a visiting committee for the month.
