WIBELESS STATIONS FOB AUSTRALIA. (from OXjB. own correspondent.) SYDNEY, October 25. A mission of great importance in regard to the development of wireless communication between Australia and New Zealand and the rest of the world has just been completed by Mr E. -T. Fisk, managing director of Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), Ltd., who has returned to Sydney from a visit to London. Mr Fisk is the 'leading authority on wireless in the Commonwealth, and the object of his visit \?as to endeavour to overcome the obstacles which have hitherto prevented the company from establishing stations giving direct communication with the other side of the world. Already Mr Fisk has demonstrated the practicability of this with the aid of an invention in which he had himself a part. According to interviews since his return his mission has been successful. "Under arrangements which I have been able to make in England," he says, "a high-power station will be erected in England capable of direct communication with a--similar station to be established hy my company in Australia, whilo a third station will be established on the Pacific coast of Canada. These stations are to be equipped with the most modern apparatus, and they will be the largest in the world. My arrangements also include provision for reduced charges on all classes of commercial, social, and press messages between the Commonwealth and the United Kingdom. The supplementair station in Canada will deal with all messages between Australia and North America, thus leaving the other routes free for the United Kingdom and European traffic, and the Canadian station will also provide an alternative route to the United Kingdom if needed at any time. "My company," added Mr Fisk, "already hold 3an exclusive license to many of the numerous master patents which the active research work that is proceeding on the other side of the world is producing, and I have made further arrangements so that we shall hare the rignt to use all future inventions of the great wireless comg allies of England, France, U.S.A., and ermany. This virtually places the inventions of the greatest wireless experts of the world at the disposal of any service we may establish in Australia, and ensures that it will always be kept thoroughly up to date. Thus Australia will be provided with an up-to-date, efficient wireless service capable or communicating directly with any part of the world. If other parts of tne British Empire are similarly equipped we shall have a complete network of stations providing a service the value of which will be inestimable both for commercial and strategic purposes. Since Australia is ope of the remote Dominions, the value will be comparatively greater in her case, and for this reason it is important that the Australian service should be established without delay.
