MR A. GVMAGINN'HT. (srECUL TO PBBS8.") NBLSON, November 2. The news of the death of Mr Arthur 0. Miiginjwty, which occurred last evening, oamO ,as a great shook to the oommunity. The late Mr Maginnity haw been suffering from influenza, whida d&- , feloped into pneumonia, end death occurred in a comparatively short space of timet The deceased was a man oj I very high prlnciplo and character, ana his deatk at tho oflcrly age of 46 years deprives Nelaon of one of typQ or men it can ill afford to lose. H® waa born at Wellington in 1875, and. waa an bid boy 'of Nelson College. He later joined his fathOT,'the late Hon. A'. 1. M.Xt.C., in the legal profession, and they were subsequently joined by Captain J. Houlker. who was lolled in the' war. Since tne death of his fatheir, Mr A. O; Mnginnity had. been canning on practice, being joined recently by .Mr Samuel. By his deatii, the Cathedral and the diocese or Nelson ■ loses a most thorough, loyal, and faithful worker. As Chancellor or the diocese iand a member <ff the Cathedral Chapter and Erection Board during reoent years, tie had rendered very voluable service, and as vestryman and member of the Gathedial choir he Sot many years been a most conscientious worker. In his younger days the late Hl* Maginhity took an active interest iii the Volunteer movement, end was for seftrie time a petty offioer m tho Nelson Naval Artillery. He was formerly a member of the chorus and soloist in' the Nelson Harmonic Society. The late Mr Maginnity leaves a widow And three young children.

A pioneer of the King Country, Mr Fred Mace, died last week at- Otorohanga, aged 76 years. Deoeased was a surveyor, and while working at his profession disoOveced the Waitolno Caves. In the early days Mr Mace was looked upon as one of the leading draughtsmen. He swam into Waitomo Cave (the first white mftn to 6oe it) with a flax rope tied round liim, as he was not sure ;what was' ahead of Jhim.
