"ANIMAL FLIGHT." In the lecture room of the biology depart--1 ment of Canterbury College recently, Mr G. 12. Aroiiey, Assistant-C'tirotor of the Museum, Save an intercstim? lecture on "Animal Flight" to one of tlx- Training College classes in Nature study. The lecture was illustrated with lantern slides, and also by means of a slaw-moving picture showing bird flight, kindly lent by the Liberty Pictures, and shown by means cf the biograpli machine belonging to the biology department and operated by Mr C. E. Koweruker. Tho students were greatly interested in this novel application oi moving picture machinery to the study of an entrancing phase o£ Nature, and accorded votes of thanks to all who had helped to make the lecture &o profitable. INSURANCE OFFICERS' GUILD. The New Zealand Insurance Officers' Guild (Chrißichurch branch) held tho last ; I of their series of winter lectures on Tues- ; day evening, when Mr H. Antill Adley gave a, short address on "Surveying from an Insurance Viewpoint." BECKENHAM RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION. The monthly meeting 01 the Beclcenham Residents' Association was he'.d on Tuesday, : Mr T. Carlisle presiding. Correspondence ' was received from th© Drainage Board rc- ' garding the coming poll, and from the Fire • Boc.rd regarding the alarm system in the district. 'uie Association agreed to combine with the Beckenham School Bath Commit- i tee in holding a gardens' competitions and rose show in December, the proceeds to go towards the fund for providing a. swimming bath at tho school. Complaints were received with regard to the state of the Beckenham Park. The grass being overgrown, th» park cannot be used for cricket and other sports, which vaa the original intention. The secretary was instructed to arrange for a deputation from the Association to meet the Reserves Committee of the City Council at the park with a view to having the park put in order. This being the concluding meeting of the session, felicitous remarks were exchanged between tho chairman i and members, and the president expressett j the hope that the coming session would be M successful as the one just completed. IVY OF LIKWOOD LODGE. Bro. Wm. McCaffery, A.D., presided over a very good attenuate of members of the Ivy of Linwood Lodge, U.A.0.D., at its fortnightly meeting. lent Association, and detailed the work nf the Association in assisting inses at alltress. Bros. Childs and Tonkin reported on the wind-up social and presentation of prizes of the U.F.B. Card Association. Bro. ChiMs, on behalf of the lodge card team, pi* sen ted £2 2s to tho Christmas tree fUIIA, After tho routine business had "been tr*M" acted, tho A.D.'s team played the V.A.'» t*® ut cards, at which the A.D.'s team won by one point. The stewards then handed' tWM light refreshments.
